I have done coverage of 2002 Fests before, but this one was
different. I will show you how I got Stella ready for the show in her
partially finished state, since it was part of the scheduled events and I
had to give a Tech Session.
Mid day on Friday
cleaned the car completely and snugged up all the parts as best we could
before we rolled Stella out of the garage for the first time, using the hand
brake to stop the car when needed.
Up on the Uhaul trailer, Steve Good added straps for support
and brace under the rear of the car.
Once outside, we stopped to see the paint in sunlight for the
first time. I was exhausted and sweaty and so was everyone else!
This trailer would have to hold the car for 360 miles round
trip. I hoped for no badness like flying rocks since we found out that my
universal small car cover just would not stay on the car without coming
loose.
Steve drove the truck, Rob and I followed in Steve's 2002.
Once on I-70, I was able to observe the suspension working
for the first time as the car jostled up and down on the cracks in the
highway. Like a champ!!
The paint was a glowing reminder that it turned out like I
wanted all along.
After an overnight stay with some adult beverages, early
Saturday we drove the last 15 miles down to Hermann from our Motel.
The crowd was waiting...
Other 2002s began to line up from as far north as Omaha.
Now I could finally rest and see the other people and their
cars.
In the rear I placed the battery, while not yet hooked up.
The new taillight assemblies were like nice rubies in the sunlight and
compliment the red paint.
There were lots of visitors who stopped by to say they were
following my progress on the web site.
Lots of questions were posed about this or that... and many
were new things I've not thought of yet.
The big hit was the Scheel seat test drive. Everybody wanted
them for their car after they sat in them.
It's great to meet all the people who stop and shake hands
whom I've talked through email for almost 4 years so that we can talk
directly about this and that. I enjoy that part of the Fest the most.
As others arrived the line of cars filled out the City Park
in Hermann.
Bruce arrived with his new E30 M3. It was quite a show
stopper.
Down the road I think something like this might fit nicely
into Stella's engine bay :)
The rest
of the photos here were taken throughout the day.
The Tech Sessions began with Rob and his 5 speed
installation.
My tech session started last before the prizes. There were
great questions asked and we were able to roll the car up close to the
audience. Rob took the following photos.
The prizes were awarded and everybody got something.
Back on the trailer... ready for the last leg back to KC.
