Other Installation Progress

As long as I've owned my car, It never had the exhaust manifold heat shield on it. They are still available new from BMW. Of course the paint on them is crap and they would rust through in a matter of months. For mine, I stripped it down with the bead blaster. Then used POR-15's metal prep to apply Zinc to the surface. Then I gave it two coats of POR20 black high temp paint. We'll see how it does over time.
These photos show the proper copper plated exhaust nuts you put the manifold on with. Don't forget the anti-seize compound on the threads!
Both senders now installed in the water tube. On the left is the temp sender for the dash, on the right is the big sender for the Cold Start Valve for the fuel injection. Properly functioning, It tells the sender that the water is cold and to squirt raw gas into the throttle body for a few seconds to richen the fuel and have it start. These things are still available new!!
ELECTRICAL. I wired up the ignition switch. I had another car to look at to make sure I got the wires in correctly.  This is a view from the floor, looking up at the dash.
Here is a view looking straight up. It's correct that the one spade lug on the top of the ignition switch is unused.
Getting the 12x18 fuel line, the big supply line through the car again takes some effort. Plan on lubing up the outside of the fuel line in order to get it to go through. I ended up having to take the tank back out to get it in as you couldn't get the right angle you needed. Thanks to Randy B for helping me on this!
FATMAT: From what I've been reading lately many of you have done the same as I have with sound deadning material.  I decided to cover the entire back seat area and the hat tray area.
Side view of the finished area for reference.
Air vent tubes. These original tubes got tossed in the dishwasher by themselves and all the crud came out. These are ready to be hooked up to the heater box once I'm ready.
More to come!!!  (Back to Q1-2005 homepage)
